B.A.R.K. Rangers
About this Program
The National Park Service’s B.A.R.K. Rangers program encourages responsible pet ownership while promoting a safe, welcoming environment for pets, wildlife, and visitors alike. B.A.R.K. stands for Bag your pet’s waste, Always leash your pet, Respect wildlife, and Know where you can go. This program emphasizes these essential practices to ensure that our natural spaces remain enjoyable and safe for everyone. As part of this initiative, pet owners can bring their furry friends to the Fort Moultrie Visitor’s Center, where pets are officially “sworn in” as B.A.R.K. Rangers. Each dog receives a free collar tag, symbolizing their commitment to being a good park citizen, and owners can purchase a special B.A.R.K. Ranger bandana as a fun, stylish addition.
In addition to these educational resources, the B.A.R.K. Rangers program hosts engaging events, including the beloved annual Halloween Costume Contest for pets and their owners. This fun event brings the community together, celebrating creativity and encouraging responsible park enjoyment through games, prizes, and a friendly costume competition. By joining the B.A.R.K. Rangers program, pet owners become part of a community dedicated to preserving our parks while creating lasting memories with their pets.
